The New Hellenic Centre at SAHETI School

Over the last year, the school board and executive have identified a number of priorities for major building projects; and it is with much excitement that I share SAHETI’s 2016 building project. In 2016 the school has commissioned the construction of The New Hellenic Centre, a magnificent space for Hellenism to grow.

Since its foundation the school has actively promoted the preservation of Greek language, dance and culture in Johannesburg and beyond, serving as a beacon of Hellenism across Africa. Modern Greek dance is compulsory for Grades 1-9 accounting for more than 700 students. Over 300 pupils in Grades 1 -3 are also required to participate in Classical Greek dance as a compulsory subject. This demand and passion should not go unnoticed.

Centrally located overlooking the Avli, the new centre will include a modern dance studio with wall-to-wall mirrors and wooden sprung floors, three classrooms, and a costume storage facility. This will be a quality facility which will accommodate the growing demand of Greek dance for SAHETI students - but also be the perfect space for teaching Greek dance to the broader community.

In planning for future development, SAHETI has established The SAHETI Trust. Governed by a Board of Trustees, the trust’s core responsibility is the long term sustainability of SAHETI, not only for the students but for the broader Hellenic community. The SAHETI Panorama fundraising campaign has been designed to raise funds for future developments such as this new centre, and aims to ensure that the school has the capacity to remain an outstanding school.

We invite all those who have benefited from attending the school, and all who have connected with SAHETI to join SAHETI to realise this dream. Make your donation and play a central role in keeping Hellenism alive and growing. Naming opportunities are also available. Whatever the size of your donation it will be welcomed as a valued contribution which will be appreciated for generations to come.
