Fred Schouwink

Fred Schouwink

Educational Psychologist

Fred Schouwink (M.Ed Psych (cum laude), B.Ed Hons (Ed Psych), B.Ed Hons (Life and Career Orientation), HED) is a registered Educational Psychologist and Head of Department of the Psychology and Multi-Disciplinary Team at SAHETI. Fred has been trained in a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Clinical Hypnosis, Ego State Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Narrative Therapy as well as Eye Movement Integration. His interest lies in the assessment and remediation of learning difficulties, as well as providing therapeutic support to children and adolescents who have experienced developmental trauma. He has presented at both national and international conferences on a wide variety of topics, including the neuropsychology of attachment, creative expressive art therapy and ego states therapy. Fred is currently completing his M.A. degree in Positive Psychology which has as its main focus the mental health and well being of individuals.

Natalie Palm

Natalie B Palm (M.A. Clin. Psych., B.Sc Hons, B.Sc) is a registered Clinical Psychologist who consults in a permanent part-time capacity at SAHETI School (Pre-Primary and Playschool). Natalie has run a private practice since 2004 and is an Affiliate for Independent Counselling and Advisory Services (ICAS), South Africa. Her training and clinical experience include Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry as well as Forensic Psychiatry while working for the Gauteng Department of Health. She was joint Appointee, Lecturer and Clinical Supervisor for the Faculty of Health Sciences, Division of Psychiatry (University of the Witwatersrand) from 2004 until she accepted a post at SAHETI School in 2009. Her interests include both brief and long term psychotherapy and intervention from a psychodynamic perspective, as well as the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of adults and children who present with more serious forms of psychological distress and/or psychopathology.

Athena Clayton

Gr 1-3 Educational Psychologist

Athena Clayton [M.Ed (Educational Psychology), M.A. (General Psychology), B.A. (Hons) (Applied Psychology)] is a registered Educational Psychologist working in the Pre-Primary and the Foundation Phase. She is also a trained early interventionist, working with families of deaf and hard-of-hearing children to learn ways of communicating with their children. Her interest lies in assessing, identifying, and addressing developmental gaps and learning difficulties, and play therapy to address a variety of emotional and social difficulties that a child or their family may be experiencing. She is currently working towards a PhD, which focuses on school readiness in special populations, identifying ways in which schools can help children bridge the gaps that may occur.

Stefanie Bove (M.A. Clin. Psych.) is a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. She began her studies at the University of the Witwatersrand, later graduating with an Honours Degree in Applied Psychology. She then went on to obtain valuable experience in the field of Psychology through her position as the Office Manager and Senior Counsellor of a well-known NPO, working within the area of psychosis for a number of years. Thereafter she completed her Masters training in Clinical Psychology through Rhodes University in Grahamstown. She completed her mandatory year of community service for a Correctional Services Management area in the east rand, where she remained for two years. Thereafter she entered the corporate workforce as a case manager and later a manager of network development at a leading employee wellness organisation where she remained for two years. She is currently the intermediate phase Psychologist at SAHETI Primary School, whilst simultaneously running a private practice on a part-time basis. She has received training and experience in various therapeutic modalities, in which she continues to study, such as Psychodynamic (Depth or Process-Orientated) therapy, Cognitive-Behaviour therapy, Interpersonal Process therapy and Systemic Family therapy, to name a few. She is passionate about assisting clients to attain their full potential and to derive optimum fulfilment in their lives.
